Policy: Food labelling economic review

What we did

Allen + Clarke was engaged by the Department of Health to conduct an economic evaluation of four policy options for menu labelling and healthy food selection.

How we did it

Our project team undertook a literature review of relevant academic publications and/or previous investigations on the influence of information disclosures and the likely health, societal and economic consequences of healthier food choices.

We reviewed and analysed quantitative and qualitative data and conducted a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) on the preferred option, with sensitivity tests and a more general risk analysis to better inform option selection.

Benefits for the client

The client was provided with an independent Economic Evaluation Report and summary in plain-English to progress the menu labelling reform project. The Report was included in the Decision Regulatory Impact Statement.
