What we did
ChangeMakers Refugee forum engaged us in 2016 to 2017 to evaluate their driver program; “Turning the Curve”. The purpose of the evaluation was to better understand how this program, for former refugee women in the Wellington region, works, and why it works, to inform its implementation moving forward.
How we did it
We engaged with a range of stakeholders to gather different voices and perspectives through interviews, a focus group and observations. The questions asked were tailored for each stakeholder group and based on the Key Evaluation Questions (KEQs).
A range of data collection methods were used, including a visual rating scale where participants rated the different parts of the program that impacted them, and exploratory questions around the ratings. Interpreters were also engaged to help facilitate interviews, as program participants were former refugee women who did not always have a strong command of the English language. The quantitative and qualitative data collected was analysed and we used a traffic light rating system to illustrate how well the program is working and to what extent the intended outcomes were achieved.
Benefits for the client
The findings against the KEQs were presented in an evaluation report to ChangeMakers, that they could then provide to their funder and use to promote the program for potential development.
